Ted Allen helped solve a predicament straight men faced in 2003, and now he's back to help out everyone else. One fifth of the "fabulous five" on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Allen will be back on TV this summer. On July 29, Food Network will premiere Food Detective.

State OKs NYU-Polytech merger

UNIVERSITY | The New York State Education Department's Board of Regents gave the NYU-Polytechnic merger its approval on June 24 at the board's meeting - the final approval the deal needed to go forth. NYU will now effectively own Polytechnic University, a Brooklyn engineering school, which will be renamed the Polytechnic Institute of New York University.

NYU scholar named as Obama's director of economic policy

UNIVERSITY | Jason Furman, a visiting scholar at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, was appointed director of economic policy for Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign earlier this month. The NYU scholar and leading economist now has the important task of counseling the Democratic nominee on what has recently become a main focus in his campaign: the economy.

Student, lacrosse player dies from biking accident

Max Brindle, a freshman in the LeBow College of business and a member of Drexel's lacrosse team, died the morning of June 18 after a bicycling accident in his hometown, Wayne, Pa.

Brindle, 20, was riding his bicycle when it crashed into the back of a car, according to the Daily News.

Man killed in Market Street shooting

Glee Club 'stunned' by loss

Last Saturday, Penn mourned the death of Bruce Montgomery, 44-year Penn Glee Club director and long-time member of the Penn community.

Montgomery - or "Monty", as many called him - retired in 2000 after 50 years of service to the University.

He was an active participant in the Glee Club, Penn Singers, Mask and Wig, Penn Band and other Penn performing arts groups, even after his retirement, right up until his death at the age of 81.

Students to select SAT scores

While to the average college student taking the SATs may just be a painful memory, for current high school juniors the experience may become considerably less stressful.

Beginning in March 2009, students will be allowed to choose which of their SAT scores colleges see, the College Board announced last week.
